Other Common Variations of Rummy Include

    21 Cards / Indian Marriage:

This version of the game differs from 13 Cards rummy in a few ways. Firstly, it utilizes 21 cards and 3 decks instead of 2. Players are required to form 3 pure runs, with the remaining cards being used to create sets and sequences. Another unique aspect of this variant is the inclusion of value cards, which can function as substitutes for any other cards in the game. Moreover, players who hold the 7, 8, and 9 of spades are awarded an additional 100 points from their opponents, as this is known as a Marriage Hand.

    Canasta:

In Spain, Canasta is a popular variant of Rummy that utilizes four jokers in its gameplay. Along with the twos in the deck, all four jokers are considered wild cards. The objective of the game is for players to create melds or sets of seven cards while strategically playing their hands.

    Rummikubh:

The game is a fusion of Rummy and Mahjong, with a significant following in Europe and Asia. Players utilize 104 tiles distinguished by numbers 1-13 in black, orange, blue, and red, with two tiles bearing identical colors and numbers. Starting with 14-16 tiles, participants take turns placing tiles onto piles of three. In case a player is unable to play, they must draw a new tile. The game concludes when the first player to lay down all of their tiles wins.

    Gin Rummy:

One of the simplest versions of this game involves a deck of 52 cards. It is a two-player game of rummy where players must create sets using their cards. Each player is dealt 10 cards, to begin with, which they must use to form sets and sequences. The only rule is that sequences must be of the same suit.

    Oklahoma Rummy:

Oklahoma Rummy shares many similarities with Gin Rummy, although it allows for 2-4 players (rather than just 2). Additionally, players can use a joker to form impure sets and sequences. In this variation, players use 7 cards instead of 10.

    Kalooki Rummy:

This game, which is popular in Jamaica, allows for as many decks as there are players. A single game is comprised of 9 deals, and the player with the lowest score emerges as the winner.

    500 Rummy:

500 Rummy, also known as Persian Rummy or Pinochle, is a popular American game that can accommodate 2-8 players. Unlike other forms of Rummy that incur negative points, this version awards positive points. The first player to score more than 500 points emerges as the winner.

    Contract Rummy:

This Rummy variation, which draws inspiration from Gin Rummy, accommodates 3-8 players and involves the use of decks containing 54 cards, including jokers. The game comprises 7 deals, with the first 4 hands played with 10 cards, and the last 3 hands played with 12 cards. In this version, Aces are worth 15 points, Jokers are worth 25 points, and face cards carry a value of 10 points each.

    Shanghai Rummy:

Originating from China, this variation of Rummy is reminiscent of Contract Rummy. It accommodates 3-5 players, each receiving a total of 11 cards to play with. The game employs 2s in spades and clubs as jokers, but they can only be utilized in combinations consisting of 3 or 4 cards, and not more.

    Dummy Rummy:

This Rummy variation boasts straightforward rules. Players use 2 decks of cards and 4 jokers, with all 2s treated as jokers. As players form sets and sequences, they must discard cards from their hands.
